dashing off some thoughts:

sick garbage media diets, unhealthy interactions with each other, medium (designed and implemented by insensitive male techbros) is the message

repulsed by this movement of disinterested selfishness, whatever form it takes - asshole behavior, blind naked unaware privilege

it might take the form of indulging the desire for ego and money by using The Fountainhead

it might take the form of indulging hedonistic desire for physical pleasure by using The Ethical Slut

either way the book is used as an intellectual crutch to excuse vile selfish behavior that breaks down the social fabric by making people more wiling to abandon other people, and that breaks down bonds of trust. people with this life philosophy constantly train themselves to create intimate physical and emotional bonds with strangers, extract physical pleasure to satisfy their sexual desire, and then unplug, disconnect, and move on

this loose connection, this ability to unplug at any moment, this desire to have the ability to drop everything and walk away in a second, makes every connection tenuous, loose, and superficial. every interaction with these people is conditional - conditional on whether they like you, conditional on whether you agree with them, conditional on whether you were too harsh in your feedback.

the bonds these people create are loose and are destroyed at the slightest weathering. these are the kinds of people, if they are in the zombie apocalypse, who will keep a food cache secret from the group, to selfishly save themselves in case the shit hits the fan.

people who train themselves to unplug emotionally and walk away have integrity issues. their selfishness feeds into their integrity issues because they consider themselves an exception to any moral rule. vile behavior is vile in other people, but if you point out that they're engaging in the exact same vile behavior but with labels swapped around, you'll be cut off.
