Professors Cube Patterns

Checkered Faces

ProfessorsCube Checkers.jpg

To get the Professors Cube cube into a state where each face is covered with a checkered pattern (orange-red, blue-green, and white-yellow), apply the following algorithm to three orthogonal faces:

U U u u d d D D

apply to orange or red face,
then apply to blue or green face,
then apply to white or yellow face

Another way to apply this algorithm is to think about it as follows:

  • Two clockwise rotations of the upper layer
  • Two clockwise rotations of the upper two layers
  • Two clockwise rotations of the upper three layers
  • Two clockwise rotations of the upper four layers

Stripes

The stripes pattern is one that happens when applying the Diamond pattern (see below).

d d u f'
l l d f
l' r b' f
l' u' f f
l d' u u

Closed Diamonds

This is another pattern that occurs on the way to the Diamonds pattern below.

d d u f'
l l d f
l' r b' f
l' u' f f
l d' u u
(cube will have stripes pattern)
R' L U' D
F' B R' L

l' r b' f
l' u' f f

R' L U' D
F' B R' L
r' l u' d
f' b r' l

This algorithm has 32 moves total.
